As illustrated in Hearthstone’s exhibit Victorian Death and Mourning, death was so commonplace in the Victorian Era that it permeated every aspect of Victorian life. This led to a morbid fascination with the macabre and elaborate rituals to commemorate the dead. In many ways, coping with death became an art form.

Spend an evening with Jason & Kate Loomis as they discuss Victorian mourning customs, funerary traditions, Spiritualism and their mourning collection that is on display here at Hearthstone and identify what’s fact or fiction.
